Wanderlust 2020: Phuket
You know how they say that you don't know a person well until you've travelled with them. Well, that's kinda true. In March (before the MCO), I went on a duo-girl trip with my younger sister. It was interesting in the sense that I have never gone on a trip alone with another woman, especially not abroad. So that's one item ticked off my list.
I now have bigger dreams of a more adventurous nature when it comes to travelling but I guess that would have to wait for next year. We flew to Phuket at night (way cheaper) and it took less than an hour to arrive, sooner than it would have if you flew to Krabi. I've been to Phuket when I was younger so I don't really remember the experience I had anymore.
Anyway, being the one-step-ahead person that I am, I ensured that almost everything was prepaid and prebooked. We got into our VERY COMFORTABLE air-conditioned van (that could've fitted 10 other people but it was just us two that night) and off we went on an hour-long journey to Patong. The driver was pleasant and didn't stop anywhere along the way (which usually happens with tourist vans). He made us feel at ease by continuously making conversation about everything (mainly the political situation in Thailand - yep, I just had to) and so, an hour felt like 30 minutes. I've included the website that I booked the driver on at the bottom of the page if you ever need a trustworthy driver or tour guide in Phuket.
We reached the hotel at about 10pm, checked in and went down for our dinner. Nothing much to say about our hotel room except that it's clean. The hotel is located in a very strategic location - it's so close to everything (massage parlours, marts, the beach and shopping areas), great foods at the hawkers, lively atmosphere at night (bars everywhere), and cheap nightly rates! I paid about RM200 for 4 nights. Of course, you'd have to bear in mind that this is a typical backpackers hotel so if you're expecting to salivate over magnificent sunset views from your hotel balcony, you're going to be sorely disappointed because the only thing you're going to salivate on is bareback good looking men and women (not that I'm complaining).
I had a lot of fun walking around town, taking pictures and doing all the things that tourists would do when on a holiday (like trying all sorts of foods). I didn't take many photos though because my phone battery conveniently ran out that first day. The second day brought with it even more fun. We went on a snorkelling trip (typical tourist) where we were allowed to dive from the edge of the boat. That was so much fun! I'm more convinced now than ever that I'm related to a mermaid. :) The tour company that arranged that snorkelling trip was very organised, disciplined, clean and the lunch was great! It was practically a hotel buffet beside the beach! I also enjoyed the company of my fellow travellers. Great bunch!
We headed back to Patong at around 4pm. It was a very tiring day and I was sunburned to my buttcrack. Despite being extremely worn out, I am not going to miss another beautiful sunset by the beach because of sleep. So I went back, dressed up and walked to the beach to catch the sunset. I sat there quietly, admiring the sunset while enjoying my drinks. What a life! I caught the sunset everyday when I was in Phuket. There's just something about sunsets at beaches. There's no obstruction to its beauty. Just the sand, sea and the vast sky that gives you a clear view of that magnificent red.
The next day I woke up early to take a couple of shots of the still-sleepy town of Patong while my sister snoozed away in our hotel room. It was a very laid-back day but it was enjoyable nonetheless. Well, I hope you've all enjoyed reading this short (erm no) description of my first girl-trip. If you have any questions about Patong, feel free to drop a comment below. Enjoy the pictures!
